Is PH becoming a victim of its own success? (Trolling)
Discussion
I think PH is slowly turning in to a typical web trolling attraction, similar to facebook pages of celebrities or politicians that people follow purely to shoot them down on every post they make.
Arguably PH typically being a centre-right mind set that sticks two fingers up at left-wing tree hugging anti-capitalist liberals. ...... seems to have attracted growing numbers of left-wing tree hugging anti-capitalist liberal trolls.
In the past year there have been people posting on various angles on how they'd like to see the demise of the internal combustion engine.....and how they don't like driving or having to lift a finger of effort in getting from one place to another etc. etc. admitting that they only joined the forum because it was 'active' and themselves not having an interest in motoring or cars --- yawn yawn.
This being a car enthusiast forum where in its origins (IMO) were made up of people who went through the education system having made an effort, and then through dedicated hard work they saved up and bought a TVR with all its glorious sound and character.
Then attracting other brand owners to join in car related enthusiasm discussions.
It is now surprising to see many posts over the past year being nothing more than anti-motorist, anti-car, etc. etc.,
If the forum is to keep its genuine motoring enthusiasts, I think there should be more joined up thinking to counter the trolls and make sure everyone knows who they are so their anti-motoring sentiment does not spread.
Otherwise the forum is surely to die a swift death as many will lose interest and find other places on the web to discus what they like to discus.

What's wrong with a bit of debate? Should people who hold different views be banned?
Nothing, it does seem a bit odd to sign up to pistonheads, a website primarily focused on cars, if you have zero interest in cars.I realise PH is quite diverse in it's range of topics but it would be like me signing up to a football forum to talk about motorbikes. I have zero interest in football, in fact, i dislike it, so it wouldn't make much sense for me to do so.
First reply and I'm having to defend my comments...
Please read that I am not stating that discussions should not occur....I'm stating that there seems to be a lot of anti-car / anti-motoring sentiment being posted over the past year. And seems to be a lot of people simply trolling.
That is not to say this means anything I don't agree with is 'trolling'.
To make that jump is not a logic step.

I think your idea of "centre" is a bit off. Some indeed exists but there is a huge number of genuine knowledgeable enthusiasts here with interesting stories to tell. I separately posted about PH lynchings but in my view these are maneagable exceptions.
Some of the incredible stories of people rebuilding cars leave me speechless in admiration. Specific skills, whether it be driving, model building, exploring obscure parts of the world and so on are well beyond my own abilities.
Yes, I do wonder why an anti-car person would bother being here but I don’t come across them all that often.
I think if you post positively you tend to get positive results.

I've been somewhat surprised as I've had a good root around the site this year, started using the "What's New" function, and found that about half of the discussions that come up have nothing whatsoever to do with cars. I've even got sucked into a few myself and almost every time regretted it, thinking, why did I allow myself to get dragged into that? It so often ends in bickering. Almost never, perhaps even never, have any of the car related threads I've joined gone that way. They've all been good to varying degrees.
I know my point and the OP's aren't exactly the same. But they have a fair degree of overlap, and on that basis, I agree with him.
