I've just been informed that a post I made about a month ago in the "Having a beer and enjoying the view" thread has been removed as it "infringes one of PHs rules".

I've read through the rules and am having a problem seeing which rule I may have infringed.

For future clarity, please could you please enlighten me?

Can you remember what your actual post was? Odd that a post from a month ago has been removed...

I've had a post or two removed, and for the life of me I can never remember what it is i wrote.

But the chances of getting anyone on the Marie Celeste that PH seems to be evolving in to to let me know, coupled with the fact it doesn't matter means I don't dwell on it.

One has to ask, is it really so important that is worth spending time over?

In the grand scheme of things, I'd say probably not.

PH forums are a small breeze in the Haymarket basement and little more than that.

Very little time spent! I'd just like clarification of what (if anything)I did wrong so that l don't transgress again in the future!
It seems that the the powers that be have plenty of time to wield their mighty swords but can't be bothered to justify their actions!

I think the mods just get little trigger happy sometimes, and since they don't have to answer to anyone they can chop what they wish.

Without the forums, the classifieds and the business as a whole doesn't exist...

Luckily if the Ultra Sound Guy isn't available, there's always the Hip Replacement Guy to stand in for him.

As you were.

If the pistonheads forum closed. The users would migrate somewhere else, and if they centralised then that site would make its own classifieds that would soon overtake Pistonheads.

Pistonheads gets lots of 'hits' via search engines, as people search for stuff and the forum posts come up. They would lose all this traffic, which converts to classified users.

Pistonheads doesn't get free cars to try, press days and so on to appeal to classifieds users, they get it as the companies want to appeal to the forum users, so the news part of this site would die.

The users of this site tend to be richer than the average with multiple millionaires, it is a lucrative user base to have, and one sponsors will pay to access.

And so on.

The web-world is all about competition for traffic and eye-balls, the forum is very valuable. Haymarket just aren't very good at it, and the forum has survived/grown inspite of them as opposed to because of them.

PH actually get very few "freebies", they are "given" to the likes of Autocar & What Car? to review and PH share Editorial with them. PH users seem to be under the illusion that PH matters to HM, it really doesn't. Look at the thinning out of staff over the past couple of years, look at the statement saying that there will be absolutely no dev work on the PH forums unless something is broken. Trust me PH is very far down the priority list for HM.

Classifieds aren't anywhere near as popular as they were a few years ago, at one time there were over 140k cars for sale, now there's just over 103k (compare that to 438k on autotrader). The vast majority of cars for sale there aren't from forum users, I bet 75% of them don't even know there's a forum!

...and a lot of those 103k cars aren’t actually for sale! I guess PH management leave them there to boost the numbers and thereby the advertising rates.
