Dodgy McAfee redirect thingy

I just logged in and was part way through posting a reply when the site changed and informed me that my McAfee subscription had expired and "click here to renew".

Page was mcafeesecurity dot applicationcenter dot host (to avoid posting a link to a potentially dodgy site)

I didn't click anything to start with, and use Norton.


Anyone else had similar?

Do you have Malwarebytes installed? I only ask because I seem to remember when last updating it installed Mcafee as a free trial or some such.

If you're not running an adblocking service, then i would say, based on previous threads in this section, that sounds very much like a malicious redirect that will likely have come about courtesy of an advert or Outbrain "sponsored" clickbait links containing a dodgy script.

The last time i turned off my adblocker on here, i kept getting warnings from my AV software about an advert containing scripts that wanted to mine Bitcoins on my system
