What am I doing wrong,my posts never show the smiley image ,just the key combination,why?

Ok ...not working on Tvr forum( no jokes please....),
I write my post ,touch the words 'smilies',the list comes up,I tap on the image,go back to the post,submit post and the keystrokes are there but not the image? , how come it worked on this forum?
