Damn. I just revisited an old thread and meant to quote something I'd written previously and add to it.
Unfortunately I hit "edit" rather than "quote" and ended up completely messing up the post and had to delete it in the end.

Ted - can I propose that posts are locked for editing after a certain amount of time? It makes no sense to be able to edit (or even delete) something one wrote months ago.

I'll give it some thought. Not sure denying people the right to edit their contributions would necessarily be welcome.

The next version of the GS will have versioning anyway.

Just thought I'd go through my old suggestions and make sure they were all on the list

Incidentally, on this one a simple "Are you sure?" type request to editing posts that are more than a few weeks or months old would do the trick and be a useful safeguard against accidentally changing a post.

You say something about how wonderful your girlfriend is.... 18 months down the line you have a new girlfriend and wish to disassociate with what you said. Could be tricky (not to mention painful) if you can't edit your post.

Even if you do edit it, Google won't pick it up for a while and those websites that archive other websites will never let it go. But, yes, you're right.

I just wanted a guard against accidentally editing an old post when you actually meant to quote it or something.

No offence, but that sounds stupid to me. I want to be able to edit my posts whenever I want, be it 1 day or 1 year. I don't see why they should be locked from editing.

Indeed, hence me changing the suggestion to merely asking for confirmation rather than locking.

It's not a big deal really - I wish I hadn't resurrected the thread now.

And in a somewhat ironic twist I think you've just made the case for being allowed to edit your own posts hehe
