What is the point in having a swear filter, which, when you quote the text, shows the original “offensive” word as you type a response?
(Once posted the swear filter is, once again, effective).

I am not offended by the words in question, I tend not to melt easily. I just don’t see the efficacy of the arrangement.

Am I missing something?

I’d imagine it’s more about search engine categorisation and the like rather than any actual sensitivity.

Just my personal view, I think it is to allow people to browse this site whilst at work so that the posts containing profanities are not caught by firewalls.
There are also minors who browse the site so it attempts to keep it safe for them.

If you choose to quote a post with a censored icon then you know you are likely to see a profanity and that is your choice.

But there's a "smilie" specifically for that censored

I had a post just flat out deleted because I "circumvented the swear filter" which I didn't even know I was doing.

The mods don't even have the decency to copy your original text so you can repost without the error of your ways.

Considering the amount of "swearing" that is free to view on Facebook / Twitter / YouTube I think the, you broke the rules so shut the hell up approach is a little pathetic.

No he used the "censored" smilie instead of typing the word. It's why it's there.

Ahh... so he wrote censored and not fk ? For example.

To be honest its a bit ridiculous to filter out the word fk and leave the f and k there for all to see.... totally pointless.

But the fk is done by the swear filter so it’s actually the forum that is breaking its own rule. laugh
