Is this now deemed to be offensive and against forum rules?

Thanks in advance.

Edited to clarify: I'm really looking for a mod or the official view. Not from enthusiastic amateurs.

People can 'deem' anything offensive, doesn't mean we need to stop all use of it.

Its OK to be offended every now and then. <Insert Stephen Fry famous image and Ricky Jervais quote here>

I'm offended by people who like garlic butter mushrooms, doesn't mean I want PH to censor it.

How do we discuss crackling or 'and pineapple' on the FDR forum?

Pop a pic or two up of the hebdo cartoons of the prophet mohammed if you want to test censorship of things that people "deem offensive" and whether they will get deleted.

I ask as I have just had a post removed and that is the only thing I can think off.

I don't agree that it is, but I don't want to make an issue out of it so I'll just stop using it if so.

Well I don't think it is but really I just want some clarity as I don't want to attract a ban if that's what has been decided.

There is a bit of a movement to get the term considered racist and maybe the mods agree.

I'd just like clarification.

Yes it's a racially perjorative term like N*****r or S***e or C***k and as such is considered grossly offensive and categorised as hate speech

I always thought gammon was a term to define someone politically, you could be ruddy faced but not a gammon. A gammon is someone who reads the dailymail, hates immigration and anything non british and has a ruddy complexion.

Can you clarify if you are a mod?

Or just, well, you know.

Nope, just nope.

The meaning of that term—gammon,' said Mr. Gregsbury, 'is unknown to me. If it means that I grow a little too fervid, or perhaps even hyperbolical, in extolling my native land, I admit the full justice of the remark. I am proud of this free and happy country. My form dilates, my eye glistens, my breast heaves, my heart swells, my bosom burns, when I call to mind her greatness and her glory,

It's a term coined by Dickens.

"The time had been, when this burst of enthusiasm would have been cheered to the very echo; but now, the deputation received it with chilling coldness. The general impression seemed to be, that as an explanation of Mr. Gregsbury’s political conduct, it did not enter quite enough into detail; and one gentleman in the rear did not scruple to remark aloud, that, for his purpose, it savoured rather too much of a 'gammon' tendency.

A faggot is a bundle of sticks.

A Gammon can be a nice porcine treat or a ruddy faced person with very strong right wing with ideologies.

Out of interest how do you know said person is a "gammon" if you have never seen them?

Not any more though.

"Gammon is a pejorative popularised in British political culture since around 2012. The term refers in particular to the colour of a white person's flushed face when expressing their strong opinions, as compared to the type of pork of the same name"

I've only ever used it based on what people have said.

If it's based on looks I'm prime gammon myself.

I have my opinions on the whole issue but really that's not the point
I just want to know if it's been added to the naughty list here. If it has I won't use it again.

I'm not going to go on a crusade about it.
