If this is the wrong place to enquire then apologies.
I quite often see quotes from other threads appear in a thread, however on trying to achieve this I failed completely and in disgust copied and pasted the quote.
Anyone wish to advise, bear in mind that was the first time I have ever wanted to do this and it'll probably be another ten years before I feel the need to do so again.
So no rush.

Theres a rather spiteful thread over on the Homes and garden section.

All talk about shooting trapping and happy proud owners of cats killing birds.

No problems with quotes being copied and posted, what the rule really tries to stop is a member posting the same topic on numerous forums at the same time.

If that makes sense? smile

Wasn't very clear was I, when I quote a post then it appears, clearly delineated from my post.
I was asking how to post a quote from a different thread so it appears as smug swine above managed it?
If I copy and paste it it appears as part of my post.

You need to make sure you copy (or put) the [q uote=someoneorother] and [/q uote] tags around the quoted text (without the spaces).

Open two tabs, one with the thread you want to reply in, one with the thread you want to quote. Press quote on the reply in the other thread, and just copy / paste from there into your reply in this thread.

As far as I’m aware, there’s no magic “cross quote” type button.

You can also quote anything you like from anyone you like

Just by typing the code (quote=name with square brackets around it, and an end quote).

Quoting my post will show you what I did...
