Embedded YouTube videos auto play

Seeing a lot more YouTube videos embedded, I’m not sure if the auto play is new or happened before. But it’s very annoying. Unless your volume is all the way down it takes you by surprise.
Any chance you can stop the auto play?
I think it's an issue with the latest version of iOS/safari. Any chance you can stop the auto play?
It's really really annoying and to my knowledge there is no way to stop it, apart from avoiding pressing on the video. (Even if it's a Swip gesture)

They don't autoplay for me – not sure if this might be something in your YouTube account settings?
My auto play is off on my account. But then I’m not logged in on my browser, just the app.Annoying, when I open YT on my browser it opens the app…
ETA: got it to load in the browser abs the auto play setting is not there. Not sure what that means though

I've just tested this on mobile and I think you're right – if I glance my finger on the video while swiping it'll start to autoplay. It's really really annoying and to my knowledge there is no way to stop it, apart from avoiding pressing on the video. (Even if it's a Swip gesture)
illmonkey – are you seeing this on mobile or desktop?

Thanks for confirming. I'll raise a ticket with our techies to see if there's anything we can do.
In the meantime if this is an annoyance for anyone else, please let us know here to help us understand the scale of the issue.
It started when they rolled out ios15 and which ever version of safari that carried. In the meantime if this is an annoyance for anyone else, please let us know here to help us understand the scale of the issue.

I agree it's quite a pain. There seems to be a lot of people reporting this issue across the web ever since iOS 15.
Unfortunately there isn't much we can do about it at this stage as, I believe, it's down to how Safari is interpereting a thumb down action as a click event during scroll which starts the video. If anyone happens upon a solution for this I'm happy to make any updates to the code on our side, but it's probably more likely that Apple or YouTube fix this on their own since it's a much more widespread problem than PistonHeads.

Don’t embed the videos on the mobile version?Unfortunately there isn't much we can do about it at this stage as, I believe, it's down to how Safari is interpereting a thumb down action as a click event during scroll which starts the video.
