Annoying smiley shortcuts

Has anyone else noticed that inverted commas followed by a closing brace gives a winking smiley?

This is a pain in the neck to people who have a tendancy to use parenthasis (like me) because sometimes (quite a lot actually) I tend to quote things in brackets (see "stuff") and (oops, did you see that?) it means I have to go back and edit it to put a space in (more "stuff" )
