Spam reporting

Please can you provide a "Report Spam" link along with the "Report" link at the top of each post?

And allow this link to simply report the spam directly, instead of having to go via the "Type of Report:" drop down box etc.?

I've just reported three spam posts - but it would be so much easier with 'one click reporting'.

That would be simpler.
In the meantime feel free to hit the report button and leave the drop down to the default ‘for your information’, you don’t even need to type much of anything in the text box if it is obviously spam, maybe just ‘spam’.
The really useful bit is the reporting and the mods can take it from there.

The reason I requested the change, was because there were about 20 odd spam posts - and it would have been easier to report each of them with a single click, rather than clicking through to another screen, selecting the reason for reporting and then clicking "Send Report" - and then having to return back to where I started...

Additionally, it would be even easier, if one were able to select multiple posts via a check box to the left, and then simply click "Report Spam" - this way, the mods could receive a single email report with a list of the offending posts, rather than multiple individual emails they probably receive now.

Given that spam is often posted by the same user, another option would be a 'Report User' link which would alert the mods to a specific user instead...

And finally - @MODS - the 'alt' text for the "Report" link is incorrect - it states "Report this threads to the moderators" - one for the grammar thread!

I reported one of the spam emails, that would have allowed the mods to see who was doing it and sort out all of the separate posts by that person, they wouldn't need 1 for each thread. It's quick and easy to do, so I can't see why it needs changing.

That's all I do too, report one as spam and move on. Otherwise you'd have to go through every sub-forum and tag those as well.

To be perfectly frank, with the latest spammer it only needed one report to come in to the mods forum, it wouldn't matter if we had another form of SPAM report function available, if there is not a moderator present on the forum it won't get addressed immediately, it'll sit in the report index until one of us shows up.

It's a fair suggestion and thank you for reporting spam threads. However it would be much easier for us to modify the existing reporting tool, than to create a new one specifically for spam.

I'll see what we can do – we definitely need to add 'spam' as an option for the dropdown list and we might be able to make the text field optional, as it'll be pretty self explanatory.

As Al has said, we only need one report as we'll quickly see from that how many posts a spammer has made.

Agreed – we're going to try and escalate looking at further preventative measures we can use to stop it from happening (or at least reduce what we're seeing).
