Is it just me or is this the slowest site on the whole of the internet, I've got 2meg Broadband and some pages take nearly 30 seconds to load, I thought being car related it would be speedy!!!

Every other site I go to is fine, pages come up instantly, even with pics on, but when I try to open a thread on here i fall asleep, and It's only text!

Oh yes. When there's a flaw in one of Ted's scripts, then experts don't call it a bug, but a crumble

I guess we're paying the price for PH's popularity.

If anyone's mourning the passing of PH as a car forum, or finding it just too slow (tho it seems ok at just past midnight) i can recommend the practical performance car forums.

Uptime of the forums on this site are shocking - don't know who's looking after the DB, but it's pretty poor - site seems to be "closed for maintenance" about every other, cumulating in the 3 - 4 hour outage on Wednesday (?) this week. Guess I really shouldn't complain though on a free site that gives me many hours of free entertainment though....

but i said it in English not not in direct contravention of the rules

.. also i've lost count of the number of times I've praised PH and recommended it on other forums in the past and have even been a paying advertiser here so i figure that probably allows me a bit of lee-way when the site's a poor version of it's former self / victim of it's own success.

Fact is though times have changed since PH was set up and there are other great forums out there, but it's a tribute also that PH keeps luring me in (much to Ted's anger I'm sure). It's actually quite saddening to see PH forums flourishing on non-motoring topics ... as an early adopter of PH I still remember when it was green fields around here and we rode our dirt bikes into the distance.

Nostalgia, it ain't what it used to be ...

I find that a rather strange comment (with all due respect), surely the fact that the non motoring stuff is SO popular, prooves that a lot of Pistonheaders derive a lot of pleasure out of the site, and even Ted has been known to chip in and have the odd chuckle now and again.......

This does not detract in any way (IMHO) from the serious motoring content of the forums, it would be interesting to know what others think....

What i meant was it's saddening to see the non-motoring side flourish as PH was set up by a car enthusiast for car enthusiasts.

How many pie and piston users actually visit the home page to read the motoring news? not many i'll wager ...

I'm mourning the passing of PH as a serious motoring forum, but praising it's general-lifestyle-magazine popularity. It s a bit like the free magazine in Asda .. lots of stuff about soft furnishings, cookery, health and social dilemas, and a bit about motoring at the back.

I'm suspect Ted would be the first to agree ..

It's NOT a bug, it's an undocumented feature.

Apologies for the slowness. It is down to me and although I made significant improvements last week there are still a couple of areas that cause it to stall from time to time.

I've got more hardware being installed this week and some more software changes to make to keep on top of it.

Home page is visited about 23,000 times a day currently. That's part of the problem - I'm having to do a lot of work to deal with the concurrency problems of having so many users on at once.

Anyway, as I say, apologies for the interruptions and thanks for your patience.

I always seem to get more done at work when PH is closed for maintenance!!
I love the site too, and extoll it's virtues to all my mates, all the time. They however insist that as they have proper jobs, they cannot afford the time to surf.
All work and no play etc........

Yes you did! I tried to get on P.H. last night and got the "Closed for maintenance" sign and thought PetrolTed's working very late this evening.

More like the 1:30am oil!, Thank You!

Dude, I'd happily pay a tenner a year if it means you could buy some shit hot NASA spec hardware to cope with 50,000 PHers logging on.

Yeah, but watch out for the foam.
