Now I see I can’t post in the news and politics forum for 1 year and have to have a certain post count.

This forum used to be a good place,now it isn’t.

I don’t know what’s going on in the back ground or behind the scenes but it needs sorting out.

The forum software here is dreadful, but that doesn’t change the basics of good security

Needing 1000 posts before you're able to dive in the NP&E hot tub is very silly.
I've been here for a long time but am not likely to ever get to 1000 posts.
Make it 100.
Not sure what the mods are trying to get a feel of using 1000 posts that they won't get from 100.

If I was given the option of changing email address I would have but I don’t remember being given that option when I was first logged of my smifffymoto user account. I don’t have access to the smiffyn email because it’s over 25 years old and belonged to my deceased wife,so I can’t ask her and she probably wouldn’t remember anyway.

Perhaps you can do as JezzaC has suggested and contact [e-mail] from your email account and explain the situation.

AIUI it tries to stop people getting banned and then returning too quickly under a new username.
