Any chance of binning that NU advert - it takes over and goes full screen for no reason at all. Very annoying - an excellent reason not to get insurance from them - if you ask me.

If you're logged in then you shouldn't be getting it as I've disabled it for registered members.

That's weird and not by design. I've not seen that happen myself (also using Firefox).

Can't make it happen in IE - but just got it again in Firefox - but with a different ad. I guess it's not ad specific then and only supposed to happen to non-registered users?

I checked when the ad appeared that I was definately logged on at the time (I always am thanks to the cookies).

Anything I can do to help debug it?

Joe,

The only ad that's supposed to expand is the NU subsite. The fact that you're logged in should stop you getting the NU ad again. Did you see it again?

It sounds like for some reason you're getting a different problem with Flash ads.

Ah i see. I keep getting the NU popup when i'm reading the clasifieds using my RSS reader. Usually read PH throug Opera, so i assume if i log in using IE then the RSS will not popup any more as it uses embedded IE.

I'm still getting full-window sized ads coming at me in Firefox - although I've not seen the NU one again.
I got this one:
www.petrolheads.net/bimages/1263.swf
and the Orange one, etc.

Another thing - when I use IE (not logged in) and I select "My Iinfo -> Preferences" I get a page saying "Oops...Access Error" - is that intended? It works fine when I log in.

Sounds like something a bit screwy in your browser Joe. You're talking about Flash ads (I was referring to the 'pop-under' ad with regard to cookies etc).

In short - I've never seen that before and don't know what would cause it. Try disabling Flash.

If you're not logged in then you will get that message as it won't know who you are to show you your preferences.

What could be screwy? It's just a regular Firefox 1.5 on XP.

Honestly - it's making PH virtually unuseable.

I don't get any pop-under's - just these full-window flash type things - either from PH or from your advertising partners.

I just got this:
http://spe.atdmt.com/ds/HAHRVNRWUNRU/468x60_more_sen
and then another one - after shutting down and restarting Firefox - I went to my Pistonheads bookmark
www.pistonheads.com/gassing/mytopics.asp
and then clicked "What's New" and got the full-screen ad. And then on the next page I got the Orange full screen ad.
In fact I've just had it again going to my Preferences?
And I've just had the NU full-screen advert again.

Is there a cookie that's supposed to block this behavior? Would it help for me to send you my PH cookies?

It's very annoying. I'm not doing anyhting non-standard.
What is it that triggers these various ads to leap and and do stuff?

Clearly I could disable Flash - but that's not viable other than for testing - and cleaerly with Flash disable I'm not going to be getting any Flash ads.

I just figured that getting an "Oops...Access Error" was a pukka error rather than the right message to get when I'm not logged in - surely I message asking me to log in, or to sign up, would make more sense?

Joe, I'm sorry, I don't know. I've never seen this effect myself, nor has anyone else ever reported it. I know it's annoying, but what I'm saying is that based on that evidence, it would suggest that it's something to do with the way your browser is choosing to render Flash rather than being something that PH is doing.

There is no code that tries to make these ads go full screen.

Ignore what I was saying about cookies - I was talking at cross-purposes.

Yes, you're right. I should implement a more useful message if you're not logged in.

Ted - it won't surprise you to know that you were right!
I have a few extensions installed in Firefox and one of them must have been duff - there's a newer version and the problem seems to have gone away!
Here was the troublesome extension (but, as I say, now fixed):
http://membres.lycos.fr/sethnakht/
MediaPlayerConnectivity 0.5.3.1

Anyway, thanks.
