works well - but isn't so clear at showing forum & thread titles etc... But functionality over fashion any day

How about the option to search more than one forum (e.g. General TVR stuff and Chim or Pie and Piston and General gassing) just incase your not sure where to look...?

but the results it gave were worth waiting for!!

You could specify which forum to search, how long ago to search from. when you click the thread it highlighted the words you search for great a giving context!! ok so you can still search exact phase/somewords/ ??without the words?? (why type them then??-don't get that one?) but none of these options are availble until you done a search then go to advanced. help me if I've missed something??

Fast food isn't good food its just quick.. I was always taught good things come to those who wait.. maybe this is just temporary and I need to wait for it to come back??? or is this a bad dream and I'm

Google is temporary until I can improve the old function to acceptable levels again.

We're getting more memory for that server to help and I need to do some more tweaking.

Ted, ever thought about getting google mini as your own search server. You can configure it to look more like the old search but with the power of google.

Just a thought. We use it on our corporate site, piece of pi$$ to setup and administer.

I did look at this a while ago. I think the conclusion I came to was that 100,000 documents wouldn't be enough.

you can scale it up to 300,000 now - or go for the full monty that will index 15 million pages

edited to add that this search

how many docs on pistonheads

suggests you'll need the big'un already!

Eeek!

But with currently 60929 members that's only 34p plus VAT each
hell, I'll even throw in a whole pound

Ok, I've fixed the search. It's now behaving properly and retrieving results in seconds rather than 30 seconds!
