Time To Refresh??

Probably obvious one this.
I usually hit the "What's New since last visit" button (and OF COURSE(!) this is set up as my Firefox Home Page)
Now, I thought that it was taking quite a long time to refresh, so I just hit the "last three hours" option - of course, now I find that this is almost instantaneous!
Why taking so long on "last visit"? I'm continuously logged in....
