As well as the rather good 'local chat' is it possible to have a 'mates chat' showing the same idea but for those on your mates list?

Yes, once I've handed over the daily admin stuff I'll be concentrating on development. So I should be able to deliver a lot of the things promised over the last 18 months or so.
