Ok, controvertial one maybe.

How about a watch forum?

Over my time here I've noticed that there is a fair amount fo folk interested in watches and collecting watches yet nowhere but P&P to post about this interest. Now this ok, but there also seems to be a small vocal percentage who will jump on anyone dearing to post a "watch thread" in "thier" forum. This has the effect that whenever someone does post a watch thread they always start with an appology/statement of fear for upseting those not interested. This shouldn't happen.

If those of us who are interested in watches had a place to post such interest/ask questions/give advice the whole world would be happier, all famine would end & all the worlds governments would give up nuclear weapons and be friends. Ok, made a couple of those up.

Now I'm sure there is the argument about there being other forums around people could go to, but the same can be said for sports/Jobs/Computers/Computer gaming/Scale models/Cycling etc etc etc.

Watches/Watch collecting is a hobby too, and history shows that it seems to be a hobby that links quite well with motoring (Breitling, Tag, etc)

Of course this is just a suggestion/request, but I think it is a forum that would be quite welcome for a few people?

Totally seconded.

I'd definitely be interested in it, but it's been suggested a few times and nothing's come of it.

I suggested this a while ago and got the response, "If you don't like it, don't read it" from someone I think was one of the mods.

I used to be of the view that there shouldn't be a watch forum, my rationale being that if we're not careful everything would end up with its own forum and the variety of the P&P would be lost.

However, given the aforementioned anti-watch thread feeling I'm coming round to the idea that maybe we should have one after all.

I am concerned that it might turn out to be a fairly quiet forum though ...

I might be a quiet forum indeed, but using the "quiet forum" idea we already have forums for the following:-

Gilbern - Last post Friday 2nd February, total number of posts 58
Italy - Last post Sunday 10th December 2006, total number of posts 42
Switzerland - Last post Tuesday, total number of posts 12

These forums have existed as long as I have been here and I'm in no way saying they shouldn't exist but watches and watch threads probably account for more that double the the above totals put together in less than a few months.
I would love to ask some watch advice on this board (as the watch I am currently looking to add to the collection is always advertised in driving publications) at the moment but I would get just as many "keep it out of our forum" type replies as proper ones.
I know there is a bandwidth issue with any forum but we all know that watch threads start all the time so why not give those people there own forum. If it is a quiet forum then the bandwidth arguement will be largely mute anyway wont it?
Afterall, if it stays quiet there will be no extra bandwidth, but if it does get busy we know it was a good idea.

Very clever laugh

However, are those who don't want a watch forum going to promise not to attack any further watch threads in P&P?

thought not.

Shameless bump

Quite. If those with no interest in watches can't stop posting crap on the threads, then we need a watch forum. IMHO.

Alternatively the mods need to just start banning people who deliberately post crap on watch threads, just because they have no interest in the topic is no excuse.

Do we need a chav forum? A Blair section? Why not keep a sense of perspective instead? This - even here - is the internet after all. People want attention. Don't ban them for it. Tolerance is the way forward. Tolerance and passive acceptance of their inadequacies.

So shall we get rid of all the special interest forums and trust in people to behave in one big forum for everything then?

No, we already have forums for all types of interest on this board yet and if someone posts something out of place there are simply calls for a mod to move it to the right area. Yet if someone posts a "What watch shall I buy for £XXX" post in the Pie&Piston (currently the "right place" to post such a thing) they are attacked by a very vocal group who think watch threads are boring. This group don't add anything of interest or value to the thread but pretty much always reduce it into a series of attacks on the original poster for daring to spend money on something they find uninteresting.

We see all types of disagreement on this board in many different forms, but I personally think that watches are currently an easy target. It really is a subject that is totally harmless yet it seems that every watch thread in P&P garners this sort of attitude. Why? It's a fracking watch thread?

I mearly posted the question of a forum for people to discuss watches without this, afterall, if someone actually visits a forum for a specific subject it's far easier for the mods to police, and we keep it out of the "wrong forum" in some peoples eyes.

Like you say, Tolerance is the way forward, but unfortunately, as you also say, this is the internet.....

ps. Is you highlighting of the word Chav or any revelance? Wondered why you chose that particular word to highlight?
