You may already have considered this: posting will be much easier if the formatting codes were visible at the side of the thread. By using our mouse to highlight the word, phrase or sentence, we can click on a format, bold, italics, small, and the lettering alters instantly. It's fiddly opening a box if you can't recall what does what, and laborious adding formatting codes before and after statements.

It would certainly help if they were at the side of the "post reply" window, which I guess is what you meant rather than the thread?
