I expect this thread will disappear but there seem to be a number of threads being closed by a certain mod, who appears to have been a member for only 4 months, and has had a couple of name changes as well?
This thread is very odd, he seems to be replying to himself?

A bit odd? Or am I missing something? Some of the threads he has closed I can't really see why either. (Grammatically poor, I know but it is nearly midnight and I'm going to bed)

Nubbin has been around for a while, his account got deleted after the Outlaw incident I believe.

I only see 1 post from him on that thread - not exactly talking to himself.

And because his profile says he's been here 4 months, does not mean he's been here 4 months.

Nubbin's been around since the year dot. He had to create a new account a few months ago and I didn't backdate his membership.

Is he on a new identity for military secrecy?

And is he trigger happy at thread closures?

I've been dissapointed at thread closures a number of times now, I think they're often closed prematurely, and it amounts almost to censureship, imo.

Rarely had a problem with Nubbin's closures to be honest. Sometimes he nips things in the bud and prevents the inevitable nonsense that we get blessed with from time to time smile

There is a simple way out of premature closure, STAY WITHIN THE RULES OF POSTING!

We mods don't need to get involved if that happens. smile

That’s odd.

When you click on ChampagneCharlie it says nubbin with 538 posts and 4 months, but nubbin (at the top) doesn’t have a profile and says 4 months and 30 posts (not 538) hmmmm confused

I think people pretty much were on the Madeleine thread, but even if some weren't, why am I punished?

I don't think punished is a word I would use.

I and the other mods may well agree with you on all fronts of your discussion, but with 70000 plus Ph'ers out there we could be in the minority and what you or I think may well offend a lot of people. smile

Look at Ted's post. Problems with a scriptkiddie causing a problem, Nubbin had to create a new profile a few times, the 2nd one is him but he changed his login name at that point so that the aforementioned PITA didn't know it was him and consequently changed it back. You can change your name just as easily if you wanted to.

OK, not best choice of words, but your missing the point, I may not even have been part of the discussion at all but enjoying what I'm reading. Or, a thread is going nice and lively, 99% of the peeps are behaving themselves, 2-3 peeps get into a squabble, the thread is closed.

Is that fair to everyone?

In a word no, BUT you can't please all of the people all of the time.

We just try to reach a happy compromise, which we hope will agree with the majority.

We’re dammed if we do, and we’re dammed if we don’t some days we can’t win either way. smile

Bloody hell, fame at last!

I've been on PH since 2001 IIRC, and moderating for about 5 years.

I closed the Madeleine McCann thread for the reason I gave at the top - but there were 25 pages of foam-flecked vitriol and various people calling each other "knob" and "sick", and it was going around and around and around. I closed it because of the insults, which contravene the rules of posting.I did try this morning to pull the tread back into civility, but it didn't work. So I used a tactic that I've tried before - close a hot topic, and hope that someone starts a new one without continuing the silly arguments and name-calling. I don't think I was too hasty after 25 pages though.

The other thread which is locked and has me as the last contributor (Rude email from PH) was, in fact, closed by another moderator just as I was also posting. I wanted to clarify why the post mentioned on that thread was deleted - because I deleted it at the request of another PHer, and it was a post that would have led to another barrel of bile relating to Madeleine McCann.

I try very hard to apply PH rules as fairly as possible, but I'm more than happy to explain my actions to anyone who asks, and if anyone feels I have acted harshly or I'm just plain wrong, please let me know and I will happily acknowledge my mistake. I'm just another PHer, and I don't consider myself any better than any of the folks on here. I enjoy moderating, but work does get in the way sometimes!

If you look at the 3rd poster you will see what I mean...
Anyway, no probs, I'm still newish and I thought I had seen Nubbin around before, just his new profile confused me. (And it was late last night when I posted my query)
