I was just wondering if there's a particularly good reason for allowing quotes of quotes of quotes of quotes of quotes? Can get very annoying when virtually a whole page is taken over by two posts each with multiple quotes. Especially annoying when someone posts a picture and everyone then quotes it and the picture is repeated ad infinitum.

Cheers! smile

We rely on people using common sense when quoting previous replies, deleting the uneccessary words or pictures from inside the quote tags. There could also be occasions where multiple quoting is relevant and setting a limit on this would reduce the functionality of the forums.

We will continue to monitor the usage of the quotes and whether to set a limit on the number of generations of quotes, but currently the majority of the forum users are using the quote functionality appropriately.

Hope that helps smile

You just keep quoting people. Like this.
Quote me and type something - the amusement is never-ending, apparantly. smile

Now you say that about text quotes I can see the value of it because it allows one to follow the salient point of a discussion without having to re-read multiple pages of a thread.

I take your point about relying on readers to remove the image or text if they're not relevent but in reality this doesn't happen much. It's not so much of an issue with text but with pictures it can be extremely irritating.

Thanks for your reply though, Pete, appreciated. smile

Perhaps, but what more often happens is you get lazy PHers just hitting "quote", not editing a thing, and just adding a few words on. When you get two such PHers replying to each other you get...

Especially when someone else quotes the whole lot and just says "me too".

It's 'you're', actually.

Lights the blue touch paper and waits for the 'bloody spelling pedants' brigade and the 'we're not going to let the English language go down the drain and not say anything about it' faction to chime in to mutually slag each other off. As long as everyone remembers to use the 'quote' button until we have to scroll left to right to read the messages, I'm all for it. wink

Anything happening on this front?

http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/gassing/topic.asp?h=0...

It seems a shame that threads like that are fine, but other threads are deleted for 'wasting bandwidth'.

I think I'd make a good guess at what uses more bandwidth tbh.
