OK, thought this sort of thing might happen... but getting emails that are just blatant adverts for people like bestofthebest... expensive spot the ball competitions.... I want to know how to stop them coming through??

The whole site is slowing down with ads these days and you end up scrolling past lots of ads and having things pop across the whole screen which is bad enough... spamming me is just crap...

So how do we opt out of this? Or is it a cost of using the site?? If so... sadly soon time for me to leave frown

Actually, now you mention it I haven't got Promo emails ticked either and I too had my time wasted by the "spot-the-ball" (nice analogy SY smile

Surely some mistake?

One click to delete it from your inbox... Seems like a small price to me to pay for one of the best motoring resources on the planet.

I get on average 100 Spam emails a day (none from PH BTW! Fortunately they all go into my bulk (crap) folder, one click to empty and they’re gone. The odd Spam that does get through only gets through once, I just tell the system that it's Spam.

That would put all pistonheads emails into spam though and I don't want to do that... there are very good messages sent out, just think it's wrong that you get the option to opt out and then you still get spamed...

I am very keen to ensure advertising doesn't intrude onto PH, and although it may seem pretty crap at the moment I am very aware of what's going on and will improve the situation by next week.

With regards to recieving unsolicited e mails, that is a problem and shouldn't happen if you have 'opted out' of third party content. I agree with posts on here that spam is simply a delete button away from leaving your inbox, but we shouldn't be sending to those who don't want to recieve them.

I'll get Racing Pete on the case.

Please don't worry. PH will NOT become a site full of crap adverts.

Firstly this thread is related to website feedback and not General Gassing, the reason I moved it here and no I didn't answer it because I cannot answer it. I'm just a mod here not someone who has PH emailing knowledge.

Sorry about this emailing when not on the list...

Could anyone who has not selected the promotional email but still received the one from best of the best today could let me know the email address that the message was sent to so I can narrow down the problem of why these get sent. type

The reason this is happening is because you're not using a professional email marketing software solution ( I know of a very good one - www.wizemail.co.uk phone the number on the site and ask for Donny wink )

But on a serious note, if these guys complain you're looking at a (maximum) £5k fine per user (Data Protection Act - sending unsolicited mail to individuals (as apose to companies)) - makes a touch of investment into a decent system (rather than self build) a very attractive proposition.

Ask the Rishi at Revolution (HayMarket) about www.wizemail.co.uk

Ok peeps.. I have looked into this and the reason you will be getting the promotional email when not ticked in your profiles is that you are on a mail list we have for competitions entered previously. This is a seperate list which include non-members too.

The way to remove yourself from this email list is to click on the link at the bottom of the promotional email asking to remove yourself from the mailing list. This will then remove you.

Sorry for the confusion and if you still have problems then let me know.
