Is there a definate maximum length that a wiki article can be?

http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

At the moment this is too long - the TOC stops working and the bottom is chopped off. There is also less displayed in the article than is present when clicking on update.

Perhaps a warning to indicate that a post is going to be too long would be useful?

OK, I have edited the original to fit within space constraints, and a different problem has occured.

The table of contents appears to be broken on this wiki:

I can't see anything obvious that I have missed, and have tried putting a few dummy headings at the bottom so there is more than one, but it still doesn't seem to like it.

There isn't really a max length for a wiki (except for disk space on the servers) so they can be as long as someone likes. Though generally speaking if it is quite a big topic it might be best to split over several wikis (as you have done), or perhaps seperate wikis for each subsection if the topic is large.

The problem with the toc on the second forum is that a link to a forum about 3/4 way down the text is not surrounded in the url tags and thus when the parser gets to the = in the url link it gets confused and cant generate the toc. If you surround the url with the url formatting tags then the toc will reappear.

OK, I will update the link. Thanks.

Originally I did do it as one article, but after pressing submit it was truncated.

Sorry the length bit a mis-read.. the actual length of a post (including a wiki) is about 6,500 words (roughly). We will continue to monitor this, but I think if a wiki is getting longer than this then it might be better to split anyway into seperate threads.

I know the next question, can you put a limit to the input box so we don't write too much and then have it removed by the system? Added to the list smile
