A new image appears to have appeared on the forums - this "sticky" thing. Does that just mean they stay up at the top Ted?

But only on their own forum - if you use the 'What's New' button they move down like any other thread

Now Ted I know you're in charge and you need to do some things that appear odd to the punters out there. I'm convinced though that forcing items to the top regardless of whether people are interested flies in the face of what makes this site successful. Surely it is of primary concern that punters visit and see the attached advertising. We visit to chat with each other and use the position of threads in the list to determine which threads are active. The new site method of jumping the list regardless of punter interest makes that fundamental method of site use more difficult. I, and I'm sure many others, now scroll past the queue jumpers to find what we come here for. Is there another way? Could these site related links be attached to the top as buttons instead of threads so that we visitors can easily work out, as before, which threads are active?

I don't see a problem with it. Items will remain sticky for only as long as necessary.

It's a technique used on many sites to bring users' attention to important items of news.

So be it, though I am still concerned about your words 'for only as long as necessary' one of these threads hasn't had a response for 4 days. I'd guess nobody is interested in it now.

They are notices. They don't necessarily need a response. Pies found it useful for this very reason.
