New Topics create orphan 1st posts

Why does this happen?
You post a new article on the front page - quite often there also seems to be a delay in between the article up and the graphic displaying..
Anyway, respond and take a look in the forum and there are 5 or 6 responses but in separate threads.
This has happened more times than I can count.

Several issues there.
News is posted along with images to the server the author is working on. The images are only moved to all the other servers every 10 minutes so if the author publishes the news before this copying has happened then they don't show for the first few minutes.
When the first person comments on a news item it creates a new topic and first post. If multiple people choose to comment at the same time then they all create a new topic. Something that needs to be changed in the backend code and is on the list for future developments.
