Now, without wishing to open Pandora's box (so to speak) why have recent topics been closed? There is a recent one closed yesterday I think on this forum?

I know the one I am alluding to was going nowhere but is that sufficient reason? (I happen to believe it was a circular argument going nowwhere and possibly even straying too far off topic even for me!) But, it was still near enough the OP point and was actually a great example of the OP's reasons for leaving the forum.

Seriously, any sort of loose guidelines are they at the top and I am being a bit daft? confused

We'd had a lot of complaints about the chap on that thread who was stirring things up. The discussion diverted into an argument about him and how the forum worked rather than the original subject.

Rather than give the meddler more oxygen I thought it better to call it a day.

Fair point and can't say I am complaining. Out of interest, I have had a quick search and the particular poster that I believe you may be referring to seems to have disappeared off the face of PH? I will have another look but is there any chance that you have had the courage and sense to have someone sin binned or even banned having been 'allegedly' stirring things up for stirring's sake?

And is that any way to treat a 'member' of 5 or 6 years standing (or was it 33? Cant remeber.) bow

And thanks for the response and expalanation. Seriously.

Thanks again.
Just found some other recent posts (today) and to be fair to him, some of them are perfectly OK and make some valid points. I even wondered if he might actually be BiB causing or should I say, reaking havoc?

Anyway, keep up the good, efficient and dilligent work!

ps - And nice touch moving this into a bit of a backwater. Another prudent move IMHO. Dont want to shake a stick in through the bars of the cage... laugh

Thanks for that Ted, and thanks for your wise words elsewhere.

I`ve always thought the level of moderation to be about right. Providing no one is being offensive I think you let things run whilst valid points are being raised, if it`s someone blatantly looking to disrupt the site (as in the case of multiple postings trying to "take over" special interest sections etc) then it needs to be nipped in the bud otherwise it becomes like a CB wasteland with people talking over each other, broadcasting random noises and generally clogging up the airwaves to the detriment of people trying to use the service.

The only gripe I would have is that as soon as people start talking about Ted`s new mansion in that London and his Carribean Island following Haymarket`s involvement they get cut off and their wo

smile Only joking. Actually very pleased to see there is still a happy mix and no sense of big commercial brother`s heavy handed involvement.

Well done big fella wink

I don't really have a problem with the level of moderation, in fact sometimes it seems not enough of the stupid topics are closed/deleted, though I appreciate that some may get past.

What does surprise me is the number of people who are fully aware of the PH posting rules, deliberately flout them and then play the 'We were only having a laugh, is that not allowed now?' card when pulled up.

I agree.

Another example is when if there are only a handful of silly threads we let them go because they aren't doing any harm, they soon drop off the first pages and die their own death. But as soon as there are too many threads appearing full of tired old in-jokes we have a bit of a cull and they moan about inconsistency. Well we are being consistent, we were letting a few go initially but when it's too much we close them, as we always have.
