So cunning you could stick a tale on it and call it a weasel.
Ok, Im overplaying it slightly but:
After reading the pathetic "retorts" of seemingly yet another bafoon here for no other reason than to play keybaord warrior, I wondered if we could implement a tool from when I used to frequent chat rooms. Which wasnt very often. Honest.
If you found someone offensive or abrasive etc, you could add them to your "ignore" list. This feature made their posts invisible to you, but only to you (or anyone else that had them on ignore).
Ideally this would include: any post of theirs, the particulars of their profile and any threads they start.
I know its easy to say "If you dont like someones posts, dont read them" but I dont think the reality is as simple as that.
To really up the anti, you could swap the post count function for a figure that tells the reader how many other users have that member on their ignore list. Far less a badge of honour now.
This might also stop people from complaining about another poster's conduct. Just point them in the direction of the ignore feature, problem solved.
It will also be a disincentive for trolling, continued personal attacks or ongoing arguments. Why bother when you cant even be sure anyone can see your posts?
Just an idea....
