Just out of geeky interest, what sort of setup powers this behemoth?

I understand that it is running on heavily modified / bespoke code, is it a derivative of something?

Do you have say, 5 webservers linked to 10 DB servers through a load balancer? What sort of hamsterpower are you guys using?
On average, what sort of traffic does the PH forums (not so much the rest of the site) get, and how does the infrastructure cope.

Serverheads: CPU matters.

I am also interested in this, come on, give us some numbers to be impressed of,
if this is not showing some company secrets.
After all, we are techies and like BIG numbers,
so what about terabytes, bandwidth, etc etc.
I have been working here :
http://wwwcs.uni-paderborn.de/pc2/services/systems... ,
but only for installing a 3D graphic server
and display system for the conference room.
Regards,
Benni

I wish we had those number of servers smile

The code is all bespoke and not a modified version of anything, so all written in-house. The forums get around 20 million page impressions a month, and around 200,000 plus posts, though all the software across the site works on the same platform so explaining how the infrastructure copes for just the forums is hard to say, all in all though the site is around 90 million page impressions a month and is constantly optimised and monitored for every tweak we can get out of our servers.

I will write a post on the current infrastructure to answer some of the sloooooow threads tonight or tomorrow morning which hopefully will explain a bit more.

smile Cheers Pete, I'll look forward to it. You need some steroids or meth for the hamsters, keep them on the ball.

Saying that, I never have any problems at all..... tabbed browsing FTW.
