Few ideas for the forums and possible improvements. Please entertain the ideas.
1) OP highlighting. I don't know about you but when reading a thread I always wonder amongst the plethora of replies which was posted by the origanal poster. How about their username in a red font, or that post's box with a different shade. Something like that.
2) Better thread tracking. The current system is good, it shows the last post that you viewed in a thread based on the time of last visit to the site. This doesn't take into account which thread's you've viewed. How about a system that remembers what page of each thread you've seen and if that's the last page, which post was at the bottom of that page at the time. You could have a "goto last post" link on the forum view and maybe threads that you've already seen highlighted a differernt color or something.
3)Support "standard" BBCode. Would be nice to use [url=asdasdasd]text[/url]

Thanks for the suggestions, I have added them onto the improvements list. As a quick note on the suggestions.
1 - I think this is a really good idea
2 - There is a system in place, but it does need some tweaking which we are looking into and will bear this in mind when doing it.
3 - When we initiated the current formatting there wasn't a set standard and lots of forums and wikis seem to use various methods, we will continue to monitor the various initiatives set up to try and standardize forums and wiki formatting to comply with them in the future.

As for #2 there's a *very* good system at forums.somethingawful.com which I read most days.

So this is obviously a forum view. I've taken three threads from the list of this forum.
Top one: Not visited. Plain background.
Middle one: Visited, no new posts. (Blue BG denotes this) red X will let you "Forget" that you've viewed this thread.
Bottom one: Visited, 10 new posts since last viewing. Clicking blue down arrow will let you skip to the last post you viewed. Blue star on right shows that this thread is bookmarked (in a handy list) Clicking the star again will turn it differnt colors. These cycles through: Being on your list, getting email alerts, something else I don't know about.
Ok, here we see three posts. Bit hard to see but the top two are one's that i've seen before. They're slightly differnt colors just to look nice (they alternate - like they do here).
The next one has two things of note; Is lighter. This is the fist of the new posts. Username's in blue (see point 1 above).

It is if you know how to do it... for example this is this topic with the OP highlighted http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a... but I still need to build it in as an option to the system, which is the part that isn't written. K
