site stalling

Rather than just been it's usual almost unusable slow self, I'm now getting pages stalling at some point during loading and just a bit of gibberish where it stops - (e.g. last time got half way through the menu bar, "search" had _> | after it, then nothing - blank page. Happening quite frequently.
