Problem with search engine

If I search for Z4 (as in BMW Z4) I get no results, but if I look in the BMW General forum there are loads of threads with either Z4 in the title or text.

Why doesn't the search engine pick this up?

The search engine has a minimum word length set to optimise speed of searching and impact on the system vs results returned. Unfortunately the best comprimise is to have the minimum searchable word length to 3, and thus 2 words such as M5, M3, Z4 are missed out.

This is something we look to solve in the future when we have more processing and server power.

In the meantime the workaround is to use Google with a site specific search, for example enter into the search box:

site:pistonheads.com/gassing z4

will return Google's results in the forums on the z4.
