No, I'm not starting yet another thread complaining about how PH has gone downhill and this were all fields in my day.
Maybe it's because I haven't been on much over the last couple of months that it seems more noticeable, but what on earth is going on with the constant b
hing and moaning? There seem to have been a huge number of threads sgging off PH, sgging off the Mods and generally whining about not being allowed to post porn, circumvent swear filters, abuse others with different opinions, post racist/sexist/anyotherist material and generally behave like oversexed 14 year olds with ADD.
And what's with all these dark rumblings about thread closures and people being banned as though there's some kind of evil conspiracy afoot? I don't see why long-term members should be cut more slack than anyone else - the rules are pretty simple to understand. PH old-timers should be the ones setting an example to newbies about PH etiquette, instead of blatantly breaking rules and expecting to get away with it while at the same time shouting for others to be banned/binned just because they haven't been members since time began. Furthermore, if you post a thread that is the online equivalent of a toddler at playgroup continuing to scribble on the walls after being told to stop, then what exactly do you expect? That the Mods will sigh indulgently and let you get on with it?
I've been visiting PH for a few years now and I honestly cannot see any difference in moderation since Haymarket came on the scene. PH is a respected motoring site and it should hardly be a surprise that the behaviour of its' members should reflect that.
I'm sure I'll get flamed for this, but what the hell. The plethora of threads containing threats to flounce are just getting too tedious.

I agree with a lot of what you've said there, but:
Por ejemplo, I have just broken the rules of posting by typing something not in English. Should I expect to be banned for this? or Sin binned?
I received a lightly veiled threat of physical violence from a serving police officer here, and AFAIK he didn't even receive a sin binning.
Naming and shaming is constantly flouted, as long as it's 'only' Royal Mail, MBNA or some other random company. Many other threads that name and shame other businesses are edited.
I think it would be nice, if the rules (and punishments) could be clarified, and applied consistently. That might stop some of the complaints.

Just one point, the "old crowd/oldtimers" as they like to be called, some aren’t that old in terms of number of years spent on PH.
One should remember that post count doesn’t necessarily equate to the quality of posts!
Puerile crap equals puerile crap regardless of the number of times its posted, and if that means deleting or closing posts then so be it.

I quite agree, if people don't like PH anymore that is their decision and they are free to go elsewhere for their fix. I believe from what I have read and seen that a number have which is fine.
It would be nice if these people weren't then constantly coming back here and effectively "trolling". It almost seems as if a lot of these are co-ordinated to try and cause trouble.
No PH isn't the same as it was, nothing ever remains the same but you either adapt with it or move on.
I really like the knowledge base that PH has and the diversity of that knowledge, especially it's accessibility and I hope that that can improve again. It seems that of late nearly every thread, especially in the P&P has descended into a pi$$taking session by the so called 'regulars' most of whom seemed to be absent yesterday and the P&P was all the better for it IMHO.

Seems to be very little of it now over the last couple of days. Looks like things are getting back to how it used to be, genuine car enthusiasts talking about cars and off topic conversations that are not in the gutter.hing and moaning? I haven't either, but then I don't sail close to the wind to be in constant communication with the mods.If anything, since Thursday, the amount of rubbish being posted on PH has dropped.

In fact, there was a LOT of crap posted on there, mostly by newbies and annonymous 'name changes'I noticed far more locked threads than normal

In an odd way, I think the split will do some good in the long run. There are people who are obviously a bit upset and have decided to move on, which is fine. I don't think PH will suffer in the long run because it has too much momentum now. The empty seats will soon be taken by new people. But then it is the weekend, it always gets quieter - people are no longer being paid to browse PH, plus, they have lives Can't see the advertisers being too upset about the split either. All it means now is that the adverts reach a wider audience, rather than 30% of your ads going to a disillusioned group on PH who will ignore them anyway.

I am sure PH will be going long after the wingers are pushing up daisies...
