I would like to apologise for the disruption to the running of PistonHeads tonight.

The database on one of our server failed earlier today and unfortunately could not be easily fixed.

We took that server out of the loop and attempted to keep the site running but unfortunately the remaining servers were unable to cope with the normal saturday evening load.

Eventually the situation became so bad that the decision was made to shut the site for the evening for a clear reason rather than leave you guys to struggle with the endless numbers of errors this was generating.

I am very sorry for any inconvenience this has caused but hope that you understand that this was unavoidable in in these circumstances.

We pay nothing for the use of this site yet everyone winges when it goes down and new moaning threads appear.. it is refreshing to read an honest, "Its broke sorry, we are trying to fix it" with an explanation - something I haven't seen on here before.

Well done to the dba team clap

even if all you had to do was restore it from tape while you eat your sandwiches - just kidding

By nature we don't appreciate things fully until we lose them. Perhaps this interuption in service will quieten down some of the whingers?

I reckon it's all a big conspiracy!

Racing Pete goes on holiday.

Mr Will goes to the loo and whilst there presses a red button on a small cylindrical device with a stubby little aerial on top.

PH comes crashing to a halt!!!!

PH offices explode into a frenzy of worry.

Various things are tried as the witching hour approaches.

Mr Will pops to the loo again, and presses the button again.

PH is back! All rejoice! Garlick suggests a call to Racing Pete to tell him the good news!

Mr Will fumbles in pocket....

Argh! Will! Everything's gone! It says 24 hours until it comes back! What do we do?!?!?!?

Mr Will: Sorry - Racing who?wink

Mr Will did a sterling job last night, and as for Racing Pete going in holiday? We've asked the border patrol to not let him back in hehe
