I updated the 'List of all the cars owned by PH members' in General Gassing.

Home early today, so I updated the 'List of all the cars owned by PH members' in General Gassing. I made all the brands to bold headers and bullet pointed the list that goes below them.

Now when you visit it it only goes to 'Quantum' (who ever the fk they are), where are R, S, T, U, V, W, X, Y, Z?

The whole list is fine when you go to update the article...so they are there, just not being displayed. Is the contents of the Wiki too big to display?

Basicly, bottom line ---> Have I borked it? getmecoat

Will check it out for you later. There will be previous versions that we can salvage if it has gone wrong.

Yeah - it's very confusing. I originally put my car into the list and it stayed there for a while but now ALL TVR's are missing...

Is it still a work-in-(not much)-progress?

Ok, there does appear to be more to this. There's a limit on the site of a page which I hadn't anticipated getting reached. In essence we'll need to break that page up. The Wiki supports inter-page linking so that's not a problem. I'll do that over the weekend.

I thought it had got to a limit and thus too big to display.

I won't go around touching things anymore! At least it's all still there, just not being displayed.

The list is looking better but when I click on the TVR link I get the 'HTTP 404 Not Found' error.

Also, why do some members names have links to their profiles while others don't?

I'll fix that link.

Some members have been encased in
[member]PetrolTed[/member]
tags which makes them link to profiles. Many haven't.

Go on 'Update this Article'

Find where you entered your name next to the car.

Encase IM in tags. IM

This will create a link to your profile.

For into, some people's updates are overlapping currently which means if two people attempt to update the Wiki simultaneously then one person's input could be lost.

I've implemented a locking system to prevent this. It'll be implemented at the end of the week.

How's the editing going?

Is the article so big that it needs to be cut up into smaller Wiki's?

For some reason it is too big. However, I think we should split it regardless of whether I find a fix for that, as it'll just get very unwieldy. Remember, in the members fleet section we've got tens of thousands of cars registered. If the Wikis get anywhere near that then they'll not be much use on one page!

I'd also like to encourage the use of Wikis across the other forums and get some more inter-linking between articles going on.

I've done that 3 times now and each time its initially fine - im shows in blue and underlined - but each time 5 mins later it's no longer blue or underlined or working as a link to my profile.

The link in the main list in General Gassing to TVR's is still broken as well.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings.

I haven't fixed the TVR link yet.

I suspect other people are updating it at the same time as you which is why your updates are getting lost. A fix for this scenario will be in place at the end of the week.

That sounds like a really good idea, it would be especially useful for technical articles. What's your thinking behind it, and where do you see it going though?

It'd be nice to think that some forums might develop buyers guides or top tips, technical know how etc. We've had FAQs for years, but they were too crude - I figured this could develop into a more useful resource than a thread type structure.

Ted, i've put in the MG section a wiki, shamelessly pinched.

See here http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

I've put a url link under MGC GT, to an external site giving details of the MGC, sort of a technical article. (I'm not too sure i'm allowed to do this either?) However, the url somehow adds %7C i've tried it with pics etc, but it add this to the end each time?

Any clues?

Thanks

I've tweaked it - it still had a spurious '|' on the end.
