Folks, I have noticed that on some other forums (pprune for example) you are able to set up in your personal profile an ignore list (the duration is entirely up to originator.)

Whilst this may seem at first a unnecessary luxury I have noticed that it is used MOSTLY against persistent TROLLERS and those who abuse.

One effect is that the online "atmosphere", for want of a better description, is markedly improved as the troll quite literaly end up speaking to themselves and the general forum decorum is vastly improved.

With the recent thread "time to remove my PH sticker" as a recent example, would it not be possible to include this type of self moderation on PH and reap the rewards.

I've been lobbying for this feature for a while. It would certainly "clean up" the P&P for me.

As it is I just switch off the P&P from time to time. A week or two without it and I'm back, ready for the fray... hehe

This has been discussed several times in here, and we are looking at implementing it in a future release of the forum software (though I cannot put a timescale on it at the moment). It also wont block anyone quoting the ignored postee either.

Hopefully we will have this feature up soon smile

Surely this is only going to exacerbate the problem.

If ignored people can't see who is ignoring them, then the only way they're going to know is to antagonise people who they think are ignoring them, before getting a new login.

If people can see who is ignoring them then they're just going to get a new login, and antagonise those people from that new login.

Maybe I'm wrong, but it's what I predict.

I don't see why it's needed, people can skim over posts they find offensive surely? It's a bit worrying people need a feature to ignore someone, what happens in real life?

They go:

recall posting on some guy who whined about something then changed his story, then when myself and a few other people pointed out to them that he really did not have a clue, started being abusive....

tend to use it in games, mostly for the racist guys and the dweebs who can't write sentences without using big swear words that they have to mis-spell to get past the filter
