When you quote someone's post which has images in, can these automaticly resize to thumbnails in the quote as opposed to the full size image?

I know the file size is the same but it'll get more posts to a page, you can click them to see the full size and look cleaner.

What do you think?

Le Mans stickered up thread is what started me off.

Number of posts to a page remains the same regardless of what is in each post though...

Well I've set the max number of posts to a page, so flicking between pages isn't much of a hassle for me.

It's more making it cleaner and easier to read. If you're quoting a post, it must have already been said. So you've already seen the picture/s previously.

A small thumbnail of the picture makes a reference to what they are quoting the post for but doesn't stand out as the main subject.

Indeed. It's especially noticeable in the Le Mans threads at the moment. A quoted reply of 6 pictures with 'That's ace!' underneath is a bit tiresome.

We will look into doing it in the future, but does require a bit of work to parse for images inside a quote block, so will be a few months off development.

In the meantime I think it will be a bit of user education to not quote so many pictures in a thread, or to edit the quote to remove the picture. (This part obviously easier said then done)

You can try the user education but I don't think it'll be easy.

Even a thumbnail picture is still the same file size, just a smaller image viewing size on screen.

Maybe to help the server and page load times, the quoted picture can be auto thumbed and also reduced in file size. Compressed maybe?

Lot to ask not a major list topping point but annoying none the less.

The problem is that we do not store any images in the forum posts apart from the smileys, so we would not be able to grab the image and reduce its size.
