Someone in the TVR section has just expressed irritation that an involved post on something mechanical done a while ago is not coming up on search. I had a similar experience recently.

Isn't there a risk folk won't bother posting up useful stuff if it isn't retained for any length of time?

Nothing is deleted by routine in any of the forums, unless it has broken the rules of Posting. However the search function has / is playing up at the moment and currently being type.

Some of the older threads have become corrupted & garbled though.

If you post the links of those that have become corrupted we will have a look into them for you.

As for the original question: We do not delete any threads and have them back to time immemorial (well probably not that far) but at least to the beginning of PH. The problem with the search is that the way it was original setup worked great for the size of the forums around a year ago, but with more posting it has become slow if we let it search through everything, and thus would be pointless having. This means that we currently only allow searches over the last year and a half.

We are working on a solution to this so everything ever written on PH is searchable type

scratchchin Just been & looked again and all looked OK! Perhaps I looked when either PH or 2SB were having a bad day!

That's not really the point right?

I bookmark my 'future searches' since two years.

So: useless for me . . .

I don't mind waiting . . .

Why not make a Quick Search and Slow Search . . . For us to choose. Managing expectations and all that.

I agree it isn't helpful for those looking for stuff in 2005.

I am looking into the search problem and the slow older search maybe one of the options we pursue.

idea

Why not put a link to the Google search engine on the search page and let their engines do the older searches as a temporary measure?

That way you get the best of both worlds till you've sussed it.
