Ok, did you start with an open source forum or design from ground up?

I'm putting together a new web based business that will have a forum section and love the way this forum works. ( no competition to this forum )

I am new to web design and after speaking with a few potential business partners that are all IT based, I'd like a better understanding.

IIRC It started using a specific forum software which was built upon, but then evolved with features that weren't supported by other forum software at the time (such as the first innovators to allow comments on news stories etc), so was built from the scratch up.

There are now lots of sophisticated forum software out there that does just a god job as these forums (miniman might have some answers for you there smile) which would be more cost effective to put in place than starting from scratch. Though if you want it exactly how you like it and like to tweak it and play like we do in PH then custom built is the only way to go smile

What I am looking for is for a partner to come on board for a share of the equity in the project as payment for the build.
