Is it possible to create some code to stop the inevitable and increasingly in use "+1" answer that seems to be very much in favour these days ?

I cannot see how posting +1 is adding ANYTHING to the content of the site or the the thread in question.

It shows a sheep mentality that never used to be around here.

If there was a certain amount of real content required in replies, it would make threads a lot more interesting surely ?

And save a bit of bandwidth.

A while ago I suggested adding it into the swear filter or writing some code to replace it with

'I'm not qualified to hold my own opinion'

It drives me fking mad.

No doubt some wag will come along, quote this and add +1 not realising what a cretin it makes them look

I don't really see that as a problem.

If someone answers a question and few posters add '+1', I find it quite reassuring.

Would you rather have the thread full of the same answers over and over or a short +1 ....I much prefer the latter.

+1 is an appropriate response, IMO. Many discussions on PH have perspectives and it gives a better idea of what proportion of contributors sit on which side without needing further (or, indeed, the same) infomation being posted.

I don't think it is enough of a problem (yet!) to require a coded limit, it is overuse rather than occasional use that is the problem. It can be a useful and valid response in certain circumstances.

I am sure it will fall out of favour again as more people get fed up with it, exactly as (mapped) and Oxo have done in the past.

Well, if we do have some kind of code to replace "+1", can we please also have something to replace "IBTL" and all the various inanities that have emerged of late? "Worst xxx thread ever" springs to mind, for some reason...

ETA: And not forgetting nested quoting! Is there any way of limiting nested quotes to a certain number of lines or something? It's a PITA to scroll through half of page of nested quotes to find "+1" at the bottom...

Suggested at the same time as the +1 suggestion for IBTL to be replaced with 'I bum the locals'

In a similar vein, I think that all "pic" tags should be changed to the "thumbnail" tag when within a quote.

Nothing frustrates me more than, for example, 10 images posted and then somebody quotes the entire post, all 10 large images, and puts a 5 word post below them. How utterly fruitless.
