News picture sizes

Why is it that the sizes of the pictures that pop up when you click the thumbnails in news articles are (90% of the time) so bloody small? They're only about 1.5x bigger than the thumbnail itself, which is rubbish as you can't really see anything more than in the small one! I recall seeing a thread like this before and (one of?) the responses was that those were the sizes of picture given to you in the press releases. Seriously? I find that very unusual... most auto news websites seem to have MUCH larger images available from their stories. I could believe it if it was only once in a blue moon but it's absolutely every article.

What's the official word on it?

There are restrictions with the CMS system we use which limit the size of the pictures at the moment. we are aware of the issue though, and will be aiming to overcome this in the future.

I would also like to point out that the pictures we get for our news are often only as a big as the ones we show on the site. The limitation with the CMS is for pictures over 800 pixels wide where we can't show any bigger, what you are talking about sounds like my first comment.
