Pound sign on Firefox (Adverts)

This advert for example, as it is being discussed on another thread.

Lo and behold on Firefox it appears as a question mark in a diamond, and yet in Internet Explorer it is shown correctly.



Any ideas? Apart from ditching Firefox

I use FireFox and that page shows fine for me.

It is because the pound sign is being sent as a regular pound sign, not an escaped HTML code, I expect.

This sometimes appears when Firefox can't locate the correct font (so in this instance the pound sign) though it can be quite temp, as I sometimes see it myself. Not sure on the resolution to this problem myself as never had to fully diagnose.

I think if you wrote it out like this:

<td id="price">&pound;1,250</td>

it would work more consistently.

It would, but as we use XSLT it would be consistently broken

This is due to the encoding type in firefox.

Goto View-> Character encoding and select Unicode (UTF-8)

you might have missed the bit about Microsoft urging everyone all over the world to ditch Internet Explorer as it has some serious and un patched flaws, apparently Firefox, opera, chrome, etc does not have this flaw

.......... Nope. Not a major problem just annoying and to be fair its not just Pistonheads.
