As you are aware MS has shut down there chat rooms which may or may not attract some younger members, there are 3 or 4 of us in the South Hants area alone who have son`s who are passionate about TVR`s and cars in general and often use piston heads, may be incorrectly? as far as your creitera is concerned, one or two younger members have also been "shot down " for asking what some feel are irrelavant questions, these enthusiastic youngsters are the TVR buyers of tomorrow? My question is do you think there is a "market" (for the want of a better word )for a younger members forum? with the obvious sponsorship/advertising it could bring? Give it some thought, at least we can keep an eye on our youngsters knowing they are on a well moderated forum.
Regards Tony

Can't see any problem providing they are reasonably sensible, we were all young once Wonder what Ted thinks?

I'll give it some thought. It's not something that immediately appeals from a commercial or administration perspective as it's a bit of a different kettle of fish and my resources are limited.

Fair comment regarding PHers of the future though so I'll give it some thought.

Absolutely not: pandering to 'vur yoof' is fraught with danger.

Give 'em an inch and they'll take a foot: pretty much more than that and you won't have a leg to stand on.

I mean, take young Adamt - what is he, 7? And an absolute gent of the first order.

He can drive the pants of Aristotle Lauda and still engage in a discussion pondering the merits of Jethro Tull's Seed Drill as an opiate to the ills of the urban degenerates.

Throw 'em in at the deep end and if they've got anything about 'em they'll be back crawling like Marc Spitz.

No more pandering to this or that group, I think.

It's a fair point DeR makes (once I'd translated it).

Bringing youngsters into the fold and requiring them to behave in a mature manner may be of more benefit to them than creating a forum full of teenage noise.

I can see both sides of this.
Give them a forum of their own and see how it goes or let them loose on us public
I have seen kids posting in General Gassing when I used to drop in there, some of them were idiots, others weren't (can't rememebr his name but his Dad has a Cerbie which he'd driven in private).
A lot of the members just shouted them down if they said anything telling them to come back when they have grown up and passed their test etc, etc.

It cuts both ways, let them in treat them like grown ups and generally they are OK, treat them like kids and they will behave that way.

How about only letting them on if they have PistonHeader parents? When they go to register ask for parents log in name, drop the parent a note and if they agree - allow it, if not don't give them one?

Yeah but if you do that, then how do new members prove their age - Only way would be via credit card details etc and that would put people off!

Matt
You were having that sort of "chat" for 2 hours last week!! I thought most of the MSN chat rooms had been shut down? I can see both points of view here again, can any one point me to a car related website/chat room for youngsters? If so i will happily kick Danny over there

I don't think it's a case of young versus old, just of having decent conversations.

Some of the younger members on here pass unnoticed because they contribute in a mature manner. If everyone just posts in a sensible and interesting way then we needn't draw any distinctions by age.

well here's my 2p worth, I for one don't want to see the youngsters split from the main forums, I like to think that Mike has learnt a lot about cars and driving etc from the sensible and knowledgable people who frequent these forums (he still wants an MX5 ), I have also meet and spoken to some very nice people, tony, shnozz, mungo etc and wouldn't want Mike and others to become lax power types (i've meet some of these at the local mcd's and the rubbish they regurgitate is unbelievable "tvrs are loud but don't have much grunt" and the best one "my turbo nova is faster that your cerb" and they really believe this! so I agree treating them as adults is the best way forward, if they overstep the mark the sites very good mods can deal with it, but I have to say some of the banter (lighthearted) is very funny and they give as good as they get.
