Is there a way of searching over a time period longer than 2 years or is that it?

That's it IIRC. I think there's a limit to how much can be indexed. It's a real shame and really makes PH less of a useful resource when looking for problems etc. I think it would be worth spending money on separate machines for the "search" so that everything can be indexed.

OK, you can use Google with site:www.pistonheads.co.uk but it's hardly comprehensive...

We are looking to improve the search in the near future, including increasing the length of time indexed, but i'm afraid that at the moment you cannot search further than 2 years back.

Mr.Will, is everything still online? So, if you know the URL of a 6 year old thread it will still be there?

It is all still there, and a lot of it is indexed by google, it is just not in the PH search database

e.g. The First PH Topic

first for this version of the forums anyway!

Why don't you just put a link to the google 'site:www.pistonheads.com' thingy function on the search page or even a front end to it? I know about it but TBH struggle to remember the syntax, so I guess plenty are oblivious and newbies will certainly be in the dark.

I kinda know what newbies are....

I meant that claptrap about Google and the fact that it's not only newbies don't understand what's he's on about.
