Why is it that some people that start crap threads are being banned from the P&P for a few days, but someone that is being blatently racist and homophobic not? (In the Prince Harry thread)

I know it has been reported, because I've reported one of his comments; and his homophobic posts have been removed.

I was banned yesterdy from the p&p for 7 days, for posting a "crap thread" according to the Mods.
I posted a joke that wasnt offensive to anyone in any way.
I cant work it out!?!?!?

Jokes go in the Sean Connery thread.

Any thread started with a joke has always been locked; if that helps.

Maybe they are trying to raise the bar with the amount of crap threads being started by serial offenders...

A reply to the thread telling me to put them in a joke thread would have sufficed.
To ban me for 7 days is pathetic.
If I was continually abusing people, being racist, or whatever, I could understand it.

Do you really think that joke was worthy of an entire thread to itself? You've been here long enough to know that jokes belong in the Sean Connery thread.

It's only a ban from the P&P anyway, you still have the rest of PH to keep you entertained, but I do suggest that you keep your head down for a couple of days after this ban, rather than bouncing straight back to the attention of the mods.

The mods are working on that thread at the moment, but it is a difficult to draw a line which prevents racist posts yet doesn't stifle free speech, especially on a thread that long and heated.

Rest assured that action will be taken, it just takes a little while to straighten out all the knots and decide what needs doing first.

I'd ban that Mr Will bloke, always causing trouble he is. Next would be Garlick, and then some bloke called Stuart.

Oh, and wavey

I have seen a thread called Sean Connery and didnt have a clue what it was about, just assumed it was a joke that I didnt understand.
I still fail to see how me posting an unoffensive joke warrants a 7 day ban FFS.

Thanks Will, we know the Mods are busy in it, but to me (and a few others!) what is being said by one person convenes the posting rules far worse than some others that have had minor bans wink

It's a difficult balance, Ali.

On one hand we want a car forum that has a P&P section where people can discuss intelligently, debate and all that good stuff.

So, in a perverse way - I'd rather comments that you disagree with, and the subsequent discussion, than meaningless, fruitless crap jokes.

Which then brings the topic of the comments you are talking about - as Will said, the balance of fair debate versus inciting racism etc. is a difficult one. Is it because the majority disagree that we should remove certain comments, or is it because they are against the T&C's? And that's what we're discussing now...

Minor bans are handed our quite freely (just ask Hoppy!)

Major action just takes a little more discussion first

I'd agree that banning in P&P is a touch over zealous (having got one myself recently) while the continuous, stupid "ghey" comments everywhere never seem to lead to any action..........

A lock doesn't always result in a ban, so I wouldn't worry. Sometimes a thread needs locking because it has run it's course or because it has run off on a complete tangent through no fault of the OP.
