Thank you everyone for being so patient while we fiddle with the underworkings of PH.

For those of a technical nature I will explain what we were up to. We have moved all our servers into a virtual environment. This enables us to add new servers very quickly when load hits the site. The other big advantage this model has is we are now using faster disks. We were suffering with a lot of disk read hold-ups as the individual servers tried to cope with the amount of requests they got, now with a massive network array storage system this will be almost removed and images (especially in classifieds) will load quicker and databases will update faster.

Though, as always, if you spot anything strange let us know and we will look into it.

Well done Pete, Will and the team. thumbup

Just a point for future reference: the pistonheads.com site didn't have the static maintenance notice displayed for me earlier this morning (rather it had a version of the home page seemingly without style sheets or some images) whereas the pistonheads.co.uk site did. smile

Interesting... all was correct here, wonder if it was stored somewhere, ISP or computer. Hopefully we wont need to do another big change like that again for a while (though I do still have one change in mind which will see a bit of downtime, but that is for the future)

If you hit advanced search in the classifieds, it still brings up the "Sorry, Due to maintenance, the site is currently unavailable whilst we make upgrades. Normal service should resume at 08:00am. Thank you for your patience."

We are having a little caching issues since the move, we are trying to clear down the cache for it to start again at the moment, so hopefully this will go away soon. At the maximum it will be on for the next few hours, which isn't ideal, but we are currently working on clearing it.

He's right, you know. Can we not roll back the database to, say, 2005 and do the last few years all over again? wink

Good work chaps. Looks good! beer

Very quick today! thumbup

I'm not sure whether that means I spend less time on PH as it loads faster, or the same amount of time and just read more...hmmm....hehe
