Replies to classifieds

I put an item on the classifieds today (a carcoon). As always with PH classifieds a great response (6 replies already).

Speaking personally I would find it extremely helpful if the PH ID of the people responding to the ad was included in the email. I know it is an option on the form but why can't it be mandatory as it is for the seller? In this instance the item is a pick up from my home and I would feel happier about giving my home address out to someone whose PH ID I knew. Just a thought.

At the bottom of the email form there is a checkbox to allow current members to include a link to their profile in the email sent, so it looks like the guys who emailed you were not members or chose not to put their link in.

Thanks Pete. Yes I knew that. My point is that I don't think it should be an option, sellers have to say who they are and so should buyers IMO. I emailed back my respondents and asked them for their PH ID and then sold my item to a PH member.

Why would someone not want to associate the email with their PH account is beyond me, but this is an option some people like to turn off if they are unsure of the owner of the car they are looking into, especially when the seller is not a PH member.

Though it might be worth making it compulsory if the seller is a PH member, so will add this to the list.

OK, thanks Pete. The thing I like most about PH classifieds is the "peer to peer" nature of it. One tends to be more trusting of people who are PHers which is illogical really, some of the dodgiest people I've met have been PHers.

And Pete - whilst we're at it - can we amend the 'advanced' search to include the ability to search for PHers cars (where they have included a link to their profile)

We have done a complete redesign of the classifieds on paper and will start building this in the next two months, which will include more search functionality, so have your request on the list

Or a different idea, Have the "link to profile" link as default ON.

They are automatically default on at the moment.
