Quoted formats

Is there anything you can do about formatting getting screwed when quoted? It works fine so long as the special character is not the first character but most posters don't seem to realise this so the first line of tables and/or headings often get messed up.
A few examples here and one here.

Presumably this is what you mean as well...

If I were to quote... and add the code [ small ][ i ]... sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.

e.g.

Me said:

Maybe this will work... maybe it will drop out the Italics

Is it because you have to open and close formatting in the correct order?

That's usually the case, certainly good form.
e.g. [1][2][3][/3][/2][/1]

I tried it that way and it is still random unless I am being a complete numptie (fairly likely!)
