Erm, my thread??
Discussion
Any reason why my thread about interesting views was moved?? The Amazing picture thread is allowed to stay in P@P and run to 500 pages, but mine isn't?
I put it in P@P to get loads of interesting pictures of where people had been and what they had seen, not (no disrespect to the photography forum) peoples views on how good a photo is!

I agree - this was shaping up to be a fun topic.
It was humming along really nicely, we had loads of interesting places put up, and as soon as it was moved it died...
As the Hefalump said, it's about the place, not the actual photo.. It'd be nice if it was moved back...

The amazing picture thread was started before we had a photography forum, and it was felt that it should therefore reside in that forum.
All recent and future picture threads will get moved, it more likely to drop down the page in P&P than anywhere else.
In order to keep it to the top you would have to post on it regularly, regardless of what forum it's in.

Well, it was getting quite a few replies, it's now had 1 in the last half hour...still you're in charge!
Being in charge doesn't necessarily mean they know what they're doing... In P&P this thread was getting loads of responses, was growing nicely, and seemed like a fun and interesting place to spend the evening. Because it's about the places - just because the idea is to post photos of those places doesn't mean this thread belongs in the photography section. I'm into photography, and love technically good, artistic photos..... but this thread ain't about that at all..

As I said if there is a dedicated forum then regardless of what the thread is about it will be moved by routine to that dedicated forum.
Put a food or drink related topic in P&P and it will be moved by routine to the Food and Drink forum.
P&P is just a catch all for all the other off topic stuff that has nowhere else to go.

It's to do with threads that include your own photos, they belong in the photography forum because they take some photography skill. Plus where they can be appreciated by others without the thread going downhill with stupid posts or "funny" images being posted. Plus it will stay on the first page a lot longer than 20mins.I put it in P@P to get loads of interesting pictures of where people had been and what they had seen, not (no disrespect to the photography forum) peoples views on how good a photo is!
But threads that involve a Google search for images you have not taken and posting the image links does not go in the Photography forum as the locals will moan about it. Therefore it's a P&P subject, due to the complete lack of photography skills needed to Google images.

You sure about that, Al?Big Al. said:

I'll go and post more relevant and rewarding tripe like most of the P&P seems to be these days.
That's because all the good stuff (like yours) is in the other forums.
I agree with the OP, this segregating of threads is becoming somewhat annoying. I'm a keen photographer but admit I don't bother with the Photography forum as much as I used to.
ETA: The thread in Food & Drink about Hestons programme last night that was moved only had 15 replies, I can't help wonder if it would have been more active if it had been left in P&P.

This will hopefully make them a little more lively as more people start regularly visiting them and will definitely make it easier to find topics on the subjects that interest you.
There is a lot more to PistonHeads than just General Gassing and the Pie & Piston.
God-damn insomnia...
THe nice thing about the P&P is that all the interesting topics are in one place. I can keep it all in one tab, and another for the serious car chat. Sorry to go all web2.0 for a second, but could you either have proxy links in the p&p for moved topics. Like the current moved thread notices, but have them move move in order when the parent thread is posted on in the new forum, if that makes any sense. The other thing would be to move all the non car forums (food, photography, p&p) into one huge meta-forum, and let people create their own forum using tags. Actually, you wouldn't even need to make a metaforum - just a collection of links to the different subfora all on one page. think of it like the what's new page, only infinity customizable.

The nice thing about the P&P is that ALL the crap threads with utter stupidity are in there. Which means when you fancy a bit of stupidity either for a good holier-than-thou snigger or even to indulge in a bit of it yourself you know where to go.
I think if people start threads in the P&P they know what they're going to get: dumb answers, bad jokes, forum cliches - just the sort of fun you fancy of a lunchtime. Someone will say something hilarious either through being really, phenomenally dumb or through being really rather clever - either way you get some amusement.
Now the sub-forums contain threads mostly about their subject. Sometimes with humour but, thankfully, for the very most part - WITHOUT the b
ks that is the P&P.
This division means when you go to the P&P or to the Chimaera or the Photography or the Food and Drink forum you know what you are going to get.
When threads that ALREADY have crap on them get moved to the sub-fora the denizens look it over, write it off as a piece of utter poo, and ignore it.
THAT'S why moved threads die off IMHO.
So. Dear mods. When considering moving a thread from the P&P: As well as looking at it's premise also look to see what content it has so far. If it's already got MX5, OXO Tower, Nuke From Orbit, IBTL and a couple of images obtained from Google I suggest leaving it where it is - or just pressing the Destruct Button. When it gets to the sub-fora no-one will bother with it anyway...

We have the ability to do pretty much this but in reverse already, you can tag the forums that interest you as your favourites and then use the 'Whats New' button to effectively combine them into one big forum of your own making.THe nice thing about the P&P is that all the interesting topics are in one place. Obviously this doesn't allow you to pick and choose subjects from the P&P at the moment, but if we split it down a bit more (and started using the sub-forums) then I think it might do the trick.
We could even allow you to group forums in your favourites, thereby using the 'Whats New' mechanism to allow you to create a small selection of your own customised forums (e.g. a Cars one, a Motorsport one and an Other Topics one)
