I have a plan....
Discussion
Evening all,
The Pistonhead sales does seem to attract some unnecessary crap, varying from modified Vauxhall Corsas to Ferrari replica's (Mr2s).
What's the plan?
Say for example a chav wants to advertise his shocking pride and joy - http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/sales/939050.htm
You can then charge him more for having a crap car, obviously there maybe an issue with opinions on certin cars but it would put off seeing rubbish cars for sale on a peformance oriented site.
Regards
Charlie

Surely, if you want a Corsa, you search for a Corsa.
If you want a Ferrari, you search for Ferrari, so how can the crap get mixed up with the performance cars?
Welll there is that, but having 'modified' cars, as shown above is probably showing the site in the wrong light and attracting the wrong sort of people. If you want a Ferrari, you search for Ferrari, so how can the crap get mixed up with the performance cars?

But surely, a sale is a sale, the chaps worked very hard to get classifieds to where it is now, and you have to admit it's now a very valuble part of the site.
It does not drag the site down as people would not choose to look for that
A sale may well be a sale, but why would you come onto a "performance site" looking for pimped car. First impressions when visiting a site is key, and can effect those who choose to register to the forum. By having these cars advertised it could well bring the wrong image, hence the newbies that join the forum who, chances are can't spell and then get abuse from the other Ph'ers. It does not drag the site down as people would not choose to look for that
I don't think theres the need for the section at all, it doesn't benefit the site other than sales. I just thought as a performance site it would be more concerned about it's repuation, it seems not.
It's not exactly prominent on the classifieds main page, in the 1000s of ads, it is only one section, in another section entitled 'boring'
I see your point but I would not think people would come here first to look for a heavily modified car when there is only 70 of them throughout the whole country.

Exactly MissDiane, hardly likely to attract many hits is it - what was it you were looking for again? Something boring, on a performance classified website?

The person selling it has been a member here for nearly 2 years (and doesn't post), so has probably bought/sold other cars here and thought it was worthwile to put this one up as well.

The 'Boring Stuff > Showcars' section was created so that we can chuck all of those fibreglass and fluorescent paint creations out of the main car categories to stop them getting in the way.
It is meant to discourage, rather than encourage them, which is why it is in the 'Boring Stuff' category alongside 'Sheds' and 'Shopping Cars'

It's to be read in the context:
of matters relating to speed.
Not speed(ing) matters.
