Is it worth imposing a limit on the number of lines that can be quoted in a reply? Reading PH on a mobile device sometimes gives you thumb ache as you try and find the actual new comment made, as apposed to 200 lines of quotes?

Maybe give each post on each thread a unique post id, so people can refer back to the original if required, so the quote just shows name and post id once it gets past a certain size...
